where have I been?
I went to the great frederick fair this weekend to see my favorite animal in the world: the alpaca. Frederick is an hour away from Baltimore and it was an easy drive since I only had to stay on I-70. The simpler the route is, the better. I know I should be more adventurous since I have a GPS, but GPS does not warn you of drug-dealing neighborhoods or help you find a parking space.
I was missing 2 things that would have made this trip better- camera and kids. I dug out my old APS camera and found a film and a battery lying around. If you take into account the probabilities that each of these components are not functional, chances are I won't have pictures to show you. And that's too bad coz there were so many Kodak moments. Like Miss piggy having piglets sucking the life out of her, and 1-week old calves with blunt snouts (so cute) that sniff your hand. Most importantly, I saw and touched alpacas. Since my pictures are pending, please head over to:

(They tell it much better than I can. And they have kids and a better camera.)
The kids in the blog competed in an alpaca show that to me is like giving the alpaca a driving exam. You move it forward, stop it, reverse it, park it, take it on an incline and show its hoof and teeth. These kids would kiss and touch their alpacas without washing up before eating their french fries. oh the horror.
well anyway, I came to the fair to shop. and it was disappointing. Farmer's market only had muffins, meat and bread. The agricultural products had prize ribbons stuck on them which means they were there just for show- you can't eat, wear or take it home. I had to comfort myself with a puny corndog, overpriced lemonade and a funnel cake. There were some fried oreos and fried snickers which I encourage you to try, but make sure to share it unless you want to drop dead.
lastly, there was a carnival and a fair. This is where kids would come in useful. There were so many rides I wanted to try, but I would look silly without a kid in tow. I'm sure those moms and dads didn't squeeze in those mini trains for their kids- they were just using those kids as excuse to ride those trains that go around and around in a circle. There was this game that I liked as well- you get to fish these plastic fishes with circular hooks on them. It looked so darn easy that I almost dug out for change, knowing that stuffed turtle will soon be mine. But it seems all those playing barely come up to my thighs in height so I backed out. I can't compete with things that have chubby thighs and diapers.
so next time i go, i'll take you if you're around and i'll make sure i have a camera and a kid (i'll borrow one).
